ASHTANGA PRIMARY SERIES
What is Ashtanga?

The Ashtanga Primary Series is a dynamic sequence of set poses created and popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. A moving meditation is cultivated through uniting breath, movement, engagement and focus. Classes vary depending on the level of students; beginners classes are more accessible and playful, advanced classes can be more traditional and strict advancing further through the sequence. I always create a welcoming atmosphere but encourage Tapas; pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to find great strength in the body and mind.

What is Vinyasa Flow?

Like Ashtanga the breath guides the movement, a mindful progression of postures sets the rhythm and fluidity of a practice. Classes can vary in pace and intensity depending on the theme or intention. Some classes may be more dynamic and playful, others strong but slow, and then some can be more grounding with an internal focus. However, all classes are designed to take students on a journey towards finding openness, strength and grounding in both the body and mind.

VINYASA FLOW
MEDITATION
What is Meditation?

When I first practiced meditation I used it as a means for calming the mind in times of self-doubt, worry, or stress. Since studying under the Mahayana Buddhist Tradition I have learnt how to use meditation for sharpening the mind leading to; greater concentration, more creativity, and cultivating a more positive view of the world and myself.

Meditation isn't just for calming the mind and the nervous system. If you acknowledge the thoughts that inevitably arise and use your breath to anchor you back to the present moment, you can actually acknowldge emotions without allowing them to disrupt your state of mind.Through practice this technique can be transferred to your everyday life to leave you more present, relaxed, worry-free, and grounded.

INTUITIVE
MOVEMENT
Intuitive Vinyasa Flow

You know that feeling when you've been sat down all day, and you feel the need to move, to twist and release. That's what moving intuitively is. We only really listen to our bodies when we experience sensation, usually discomfort or pain, and we move to release that blockage. My classes encourage the body to explore movement intuitively without waiting for our bodies to tell us something is wrong.

The aim of this class isn’t to achieve the perfect pose, but to feel freely into all corners of the body and mat creating a practice that serves on a physical, emotional, and physiological level.

Classes combine strong yet nourishing movements to create space for new energy to flow.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa classes combine breath and a mindful progression of postures to set the rhythm of a practice. These classes are still fluid, yet they are choreographed to be a little more structured than the Intuitive Vinyasa Flow.

Classes can vary in pace and intensity depending on the theme or intention. Some classes may be more dynamic and playful, others strong but slow, and then some can be more grounding with an internal focus. However, all classes are designed to take students on a journey towards finding openness, strength and grounding in both the body and mind.

Conscious Breathing & Meditation

Conscious Breathing is a more holistic approach to Pranayama, yogic "breath work". By paying attention to the breath we can free ourselves from any restriction in the belly and chest. In doing so we bypass the logical thinking mind that’s related to planning and doing, and tap down into the body, into being with what is.

In the Western World we are often walking around in a state of mild asphyxiation drawing our bellies in to fit a certain image, or feeling tightness due to stress. The beauty of conscious breathing is that we can explore simple exercises that have significant health benefits without the need to adopt any esoterical beliefs or make any changes to our lifestyle.

The meditation element is tailored to a class and could include body scans, visualisations, contemplation, and even gentle movements.

ASHTANGI
Ashtanga Mysore Practice

The Ashtanga Primary Series is a dynamic sequence of set poses created and popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. A moving meditation is cultivated through uniting breath, movement, engagement and Focus. As it is a set flow, you can develop a strong self practice to do anywhere. Mysore classes just offer the space and one on one attention from a compassionate teacher (me) to check safety and alignment, or to take you deeper.

In Mysore you're free to practice the sequence at your own pace. Don't worry if you're a newbie to Ashtanga, I have sneaky cheat sheets you can follow with me. As the weeks progress I assist you with learning the next posture, and the next, and so it continues..

As the class is an open time slot, you can turn up whenever and everyone finishes at a time that suits their body and mind on a given day.
